Hannah Goin signs NLI with Morehead State University
Walla Walla High School Senior Hannah Goin signed her NCAA National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, May 7th at 3:45 pm in the Commons at Walla Walla High School. Facilitated by Coach Alan Joseph, the NCAA Rifle Coach at Morehead State University, Goin’s offer comes on the heels of her performance at the Junior Olympic National Rifle Championship.
Goin’s career in JROTC began when she joined WAHI’s JROTC program and began shooting competitively as a freshman. Quickly distinguishing herself as a top athlete, she earned a coveted place on the precision rifle team before the end of her sophomore year. She has served as a scoring member of the team in six appearances at national championship events, including Junior Olympics, Army JROTC Nationals, and CMP Nationals.
Approaching her senior year in 2024, Goin was selected as Cadet Battalion Commander at the rank of Cadet Lieutenant Colonel, earning the rank of Cadet Colonel in February of 2025, with operational control of six cadet companies and a battalion staff.
Since fall, Goin has been negotiating with several NCAA collegiate rifle coaches as a prospect for next season. In January she traveled to Morehead State University in Kentucky for an official NCAA visit. For two days she toured the campus, attended classes with an NCAA Rifle athlete, observed the team practice and interviewed with the coach.
In April, following a strong performance in Anniston, Alabama, at Junior Olympics, Goin was contacted by Coach Joseph and offered a roster spot on the 2025-26 Rifle Team.
“My planned major is pre-med,” Said Goin after her signing on Friday. “Morehead has exactly the program of study that I wanted. I decided back in January that, whether or not I received an offer to shoot there, that’s where I wanted to go.”
Goin’s signing with MSU sets in motion a series of events that will keep her busy for the remainder of the school year through this summer. She is currently in training for the CMP National Rifle Championships in Ohio this July with the rest of her team. Upon completion of this match, she will begin moving to Kentucky to begin her fall semester and start training with the MSU Rifle Team in preparation for the 2025-26 season.
