WaHi FFA Farm Day Tradition Revived

On May 21st and 22nd, the district's first graders visited the FFA barn at WaHi for Elementary Farm Day. In a revival of a long-beloved tradition, the FFA students prepared a well-organized program with five learning stations that included animals to pet and meet, information about farming and livestock, and the chance for the first graders to ask a wide variety of questions.

The students met small animals (rabbits, chicks and chickens, a friendly rooster, and baby turkeys), sheep, goats, pigs, two tractors, beef and dairy cows, and learned about how food goes from farm to table. Many thanks to Agriculture Education Teacher Jessica Johnson, student leader Baylee Appleford, Agriculture Education Teacher Peggy Payne, and all of the FFA students who gave their time to plan and lead this program for the first graders.

Funding for the program was made possible by a gift from the Shindig Fund, made through the Walla Walla Public Schools Foundation.
